July 2007 Status Report South Phoenix Industry Challenge/Good Neighbor Partnership

pollutants and decreasing accidental releases in the South Phoenix community. We will accomplish this
by fostering communication and an exchange of ideas and technology between the community, industry
and government.”

Goals:
The Industry Challenge/Good Neighbor Partnership has two main goals:
1. Reduce routine air emissions of priority pollutants by 20% 2002-2007.
2. Reduce number and severity of accidental releases.
Membership:
The partnership is made up of representatives from industry, government, elected officials and the
public. We formally kicked-off the partnership at a press event and pledge-signing ceremony on March 8,
2005. Twenty-one South Phoenix companies have signed the pledge and formally joined the
partnership. They are:

Goals Established:
Twelve Emissions Reduction companies have established 23 reduction goals for 23 chemicals with an
average reduction goal of 31%.
Three companies have established three hazardous waste reduction goals with an average reduction
goal of 30%.
Three companies have established three energy reduction goals with an average reduction goal of 11%.
One company established a 20% water reduction goal.

Proposed Partnership Activities for 2007-2008:
• The Emissions Reduction Workgroup is planning to perform technical assistance visits to all 12 ER
facilities. Technical assistance is always available on as needed basis.
• All Companies will implement new technologies and practices to reduce emissions and improve site
safety – 2005 through the end of the calendar year 2007.
• Companies and partners will track and report progress annually - 2006 to 2008.
• We will continue to hold workgroup meetings and full partnership meetings, as needed
• Companies and partners will hold a press event and issue a summary report – Spring/Summer 2008
